Bridget Shepherd Response

Once upon a viewing:
There are many things in this world that revolve around polar opposites, and this collection is an awesome representation of the duality that is so central to the universe. Yahweh is grasping, grimacing, and vomiting out the cosmos. This moment of creation, violent and unstoppable, is wonderfully depicted, encompassing blurred edges and hard lines. He is radiant too, but in a very different way then the Goddess image. The wedding theme seems appropriate here. This green full-hipped Mother Goddess with her fabulous pink bellybutton is bestowing her divine blessing on human love and community, and everyone therein appears sure of their place and purpose. I see in this painting both movement and joy.

It is interesting to note that image of the chaotic and haunting Yahweh was already firmly established in Mr. Bernstein's mind, and only years later did that image find its counterpart. Perhaps what we are seeing in these paintings is the manifestation of the artist's enlightenment.
