Lois Hayward Response

Jack and I have had several conversations about the two paintings. Both of us found them fresh and new and beautiful. I think of that bright-colored one as Demonic Creator. I see a primate in the center of it, which made me think that maybe he is the Prime Primate from whom all of us descend. The two big cat paws make him an extraodinry primate. Tiger, Tiger burning bright. The primal fire. The navel of power. The nothing turning into everything. Fire and smoke and fear, though the figure is not truly threateining except in his power which explodes out of him almost without his volition. And yet there's a bit of creation as a game.

The other one, well its my all-time favorite of your paintings. I'm in love with it. The figure holding the wedding couple is benign, but not soft. She is mighty in her own way, a little like the statue of Liberty. But all those little beings please me to my core. Like all the little gods and goddesses the Japanese have little figures of. It is also about culture. Beings being together. Life playing its various melodies.

That's all for tonight. I wonder what will happen the next time I think of them?

Thank you for sharing your wonderful work with us today.
