Pat Sardeson Response-Mayan Rites

My Thoughts on "Mayan Rites"

My gaze is pulled to the center of the painting. I see there a pool, with a waterfall. To the far left I see a tall figure; someone overseeing a ritual. A purifying ritual. Coming up to the pool I see three other figures. The first is carrying something, the second is the one being purified, with head bowed down; the third is in a cloak. These are reflected into a larger pool.

A window opens to the outside. The beautiful vibrant colors, set against the darkness of the matrix of the painting, tell me this is a very important ritual, rite of passage.

Just my thoughts,
